The Future is Now – HydrOgen Production from the Earth’s subsurface (HOPE)

Below is a list of the major equipment in The Hope Group. Besides, we also have access to equipment in (1) the Department of Petroleum Engineering including: a CT-scanner,  core flooding systems, triaxial rock compression equipment, and wombat scratch test machine, etc.; (2) Material Characterization Center including: Polarizing Digital Microscope, TGA, SEM, TEM, FIB-SEM, FTIR-IR microscope, FT-Roman spectrometer, and DSC; (3) Department of Geosciences including: BET surface area analyzer, ICP-AES, LA-ICP-MS, X-ray fluorescence, and petrographic microscope; (4) Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry including HPLC, Thermo LCQ Fleet LC-MS, UV-VIs, CHNS analyzer, Atomic absorption spectroscopy, FT-IR, and Ion chromatography; and (5) Computational resources at HPCC Center.

Two Microwave Reactor Systems

• Sairem microwave generators:

       – Solid State (450 W)

       – Magnetron (3 KW)

       – Frequency: 2450 ± 50 MHz

       – WR 340 waveguide

• Cavity:

 Three mass flow meters:

Mass Spectrometer – The MAX300-IG Industrial Gas Analyzer, Extrel

  • Online, real-time, high performance mass spectrometer
  • Speed: a typical analysis time of less than 400ms per component with the capability to analyze an unlimited number of components and sample streams
  • Sensitivity: Detection ranges are 100% to 10 ppm (parts per million) using a Faraday Detector or 100% to 10 ppb (parts per billion) using the Dual Faraday/Electron Multiplier detector
  • Precision: a precision of ± 0.0025 absolute, based on a 1% Argon concentration

  • Spectral range: 2.3 μm (capable of penetrating quartz tube and measure the temperature of sample in it)
