 New PhD Positions 

PhD position are available in the following research areas in The Hope Group in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University. The expected starting time is Spring or Fall 2025.

Electromagnetic-assisted catalytic heating for in-situ hydrogen production from petroleum reservoirs (both lab experiments and reservoir-scale modeling);

Ultramafic rock-water interactions for subsurface clean hydrogen production (both lab experiments and simulations);
Geochemical modeling in CO2 sequestration (modeling);
Geothermal recovery in fractured rock systems (modeling).


Preferred qualifications:

(1) Strongly self-motivated with independent thinking ability;

(2) Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or Chemical Engineering;

(3) Experience in publishing papers on peer-reviewed journals;

(4) Research experiences in any one of the following areas will be given priority:

      • Modeling single or multiphase flows in subsurface porous media;

      • CO2 sequestration or hydrogen geological storage;

      • Electromagnetic/Microwave heating;

      • Reactions, kinetics, or geochemistry;

      • Familiar with one of the numerical methods: finite element method, finite volume method, spectral method, or Galerkin method, phase field method, volume of fluid method, or level set method.

(5) English with GRE and IELTS (or TOEFL) scores;

(6) Experience in programming in C++, Fortran, or Python;
